Welcome to Aksharam Montessori, a learning community founded in 2023 with a deep commitment to nurturing the individuality and potential of every child. Rooted in the Montessori philosophy, we believe that children learn best in an environment that respects their natural curiosity, independence, and pace of development.

At Aksharam Montessori, we provide a carefully prepared environment for children from 2 to 10 years of age, where learning is hands-on, meaningful, and connected to real life. Inspired by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, we guide children to become confident, responsible, and self-motivated learners.

Children are given the freedom to choose purposeful activities that match their interests and developmental needs. This encourages independence, concentration, and a genuine love for learning, while teachers support and observe each child’s unique journey.

More than a school, Aksharam Montessori is a community that works together to nurture compassionate individuals who respect others, care for nature, and grow into responsible members of society.

Our Story

Aksharam Montessori was founded in the heart of Kochi with a vision to create a meaningful and nurturing learning environment where children are respected, inspired, and guided to grow into responsible individuals. At the core of our philosophy is the belief that education should not only nurture knowledge, but also cultivate empathy, independence, and a deep respect for the world and nature around us. We aspire to build a strong community that works together to shape a future generation that is thoughtful, aware, and committed to caring for our planet.

The journey began with Soorya Krishna, a design graduate from NIFT and the creative force behind a clothing line. While searching for a holistic educational experience for her three-year-old child, she recognised a gap in the educational landscape. Inspired by the Montessori education experienced by members of her family, Soorya explored the philosophy more deeply and pursued Montessori training. She is a certified Pre-Primary Montessori Adult and has also completed the AMI Assistant Teacher’s training programme. In May 2023, she founded Aksharam Montessori with a heartfelt commitment to creating a space where children can learn naturally, explore with confidence and develop holistically.

Joining her in this journey is Swati Bhatnagar, an MSc Mathematics graduate from Delhi University and a certified Elementary Montessori Adult. With experience in content development for schools in the United States and academic counselling, Swati brings a thoughtful and global perspective to education. She believes Montessori education plays a vital role in nurturing a generation that is compassionate, responsible and mindful of its role in protecting the world and the environment.

Together, Soorya and Swati are building Aksharam Montessori as more than a school - a community of learners, families, and educators working with a shared purpose: to support children in becoming confident, capable and caring individuals who will contribute positively to society and the future of our world.
